7s vs Alexandra Park 8s (h), 4-1, 18.01.20

Winchmore Hill 7’s vs Alexander Park 8’s Won 4-1 league game Nice to go into the week with a win under the belt after having a bad blip which has put us out of the title race unfortunately. But we move on and learn from this and now we just enjoy the rest of the season and try new things giving us fresh idea’s. So the first change was formation from our usual 4-1-3-2 decided to go and try 3-5-2 for this game. As the game was on the smaller pitch we decided to change tactics as well from passing it out from the back by being more direct and playing on the counter attack, and it worked a treat. Straight from the start playing it to our CB’s and them hitting brilliant diagonal balls to our winger’s Keiron Najada and Charles Bettes who both did brilliant. On the front foot peppering their goal they hadn’t known what hit them. Then they got a free kick and the same thing happened that has been happening for the last 6 games, where their first effort on goal and it goes in. So against the run of play we go 1-0 down, but everyone just got on with it and wanted the 3 points today. So just by being direct we carried on, and our first goal came when Pete Cooper won a ball in the air with two defenders on him and Eddie Muñoz peeled off the back and volleyed in his effort from a tight angle which swerved  into the opposite corner. 1-1 back in the game. Second half starts and we are feeling confident and then made a change by bringing Rob Sweetner on for Eddie Muñoz and his contribution’s was excellent. For our second goal we got a free kick and Najada put in a beautiful ball for Sean Leahy to tower above everyone and put the ball into the back of the net with a bullet header. Then we got in our flow, and Sweetner showed his strength and unselfishness in front of goal when he saw someone in a better position and laying it on a plate for Pete Cooper to score the 2 easiest goals he get this season just by AP being unable to deal with Rob up top. Have to say a great team performance from everyone but Charles Bettes had really stood out in the game as a LWB and was MOTM but there was a lot of good performances on the day.
