7s vs Alexandra Park 8s (h), 3-3, 04.01.20

Winchmore hill 7’s vs Alexander Park 8’s 3-3 draw at home

So the new year start’s and we just needed to get back off to a positive start being on the wrong side of results lately but being honest we probably just got carried away with ourselves being top of the league when we are normally human punch bags for the opposition. Our heads drifted off to the sky’s maybe. So a new year and clarity to the season. A message for the boys “ let’s start having fun again when we just enjoyed the game and not thinking of next week, we were unplayable at times.”

Back to the game not the greatest team in our division but we knew they would make it difficult for us and they did, we were 2-0 down until the last few moments of the half and we got a corner and Aren Hassan wanted to go over and put this one into the box and his delivery went to the front post and then Paul Berrimen scrambled it in over the line. Not the prettiest (a lot like berer’s) but that was what we needed to get us into half time.

Now we could of easily gone into the 2nd half feeling sorry for ourselves and looking around and blaming each other. But we took responsibility and went out in the 2nd half wanting to show what we can do.

First change was the formation from our usual 4-1-3-2 formation we just set the team up 4-3-3 and the instructions were simple just be on the front foot and attack.

Then Pete cooper with a Herculean effort showing the power and strength he has in his locker holding off a keeper that was like 9ft tall and built like a tower.

Now I don’t know how it happen but it did, the keeper dropped the ball and cooper got in between him and the ball and there was no way the keeper was getting it back. It was as if Pete was Neo from the matrix and just said ‘No’ and time stopped next thing you know he buried it in the net. Super human feat. 2-2

Now at our level of football you don’t see many players with amazing skills with the ball but then Charles Bettes did an amazing cruyff turn in the box which led to an easy goal. But unfortunately for us he did it in our box and the opposition read it and got an easy tap in. Sorry Bettes but I had to mention it as it was a legendary moment from you.

But that didn’t matter we stuck together as a team and no one held it against him as Bettes has become a solid member to the squad and established himself as a first team player. One of our best players this season so far.

So 3-2 down with a few moments to go and we kept plugging away until the last minute and Graeme Gillies made a run from deep outside the box and got an amazing head on the end of a beautiful cross. 3-3 final score and maybe a fair one at that due to us making a lot of mistakes in the first half but the team spirit and unity was there to see at the end. Head held high lads
