3s vs Carshalton 3s (h), 3-2, 12.10.19

Winchmore 3 - 2 Carshalton

Winchmore completed a brilliant comeback to progress into the second round of the AFA Cup.

The 3s came twice from behind to earn a well-deserved win which, in all honesty, never should have been so close.

The game could have been all but over in the first half had the 3s buried their chances - a familiar occurance.

Keith Deidrick had a penalty saved and missed a string of one-on-one chances. It proved to be a frustrating afternoon for Winchmore's No.10, but his overall contribution was superb.

Ironically, Carshalton drew first blood from the spot. Karma appeared to catch up with Will Bauckham who got away with a penalty a few weeks ago, only for the ref to blow after his late tackle this time round.

The 3s didn't grab the equaliser until early in the second half. Jordan Williams' mazy, shimmying run sent four of the oppo for the goal itself was initially met with silence as only the goalscorer and keeper were aware that he'd squeezed it in at the near post.

Deja vu struck again soon after though and the south London side reclaimed the lead against the run of play from a corner.

But confidence was high amongst the 3s and George Fuller punished some sloppy defending with a low first time strike after a Matt Currie cutback. There was no way we were losing this now.

10 minutes from time and Jordan was back at it on the left throwing in more twists and turns than a Game of Thrones season finale. After weaving his way to the byline it was just a simple matter of squaring the ball to Jack McKenna to tap home the winner.

The scoreline does not reflect the quality of the football we played in this game. Some truly great stuff - perhaps we're too hard on ourselves, but we are becoming increasingly guilty of playing with our food. Onto the next one.
