Winchmore Hill 3s vs City of London

SAL Intermediate Div 4

05 October

Winchmore Hill 1 - 1 City of London

The 3s dropped their first points of the season as they succumbed to an 84th minute equaliser at home against second-place City of London.

The game should've been over in the first half as Winchmore squandered chance after chance, rattling the woodwork three times.

Despite some excellent football from open play, our goal came early in the second half from a corner.

Joe Reid picked out John Roberts wonderfully with a lofted ball to the back post. John was of course on hand to finesse the cross like a Saturday night conquest with a trademark hangtime header.

Pedro Pereira continued to impress at right midfield. His passing, tenacity and Brazilian flair dictated the game in true Bolsaniero fashion - unlucky not to clock up a couple of assists.

However the stand out mention goes to the stand-in man. Steve Cowley, once top goalscorer for the team, showed us he's got it both ends of the pitch and put on an excellent display at right-back. So much so that I might actually feel comfortable booking another trip to Thailand in February.

And finally, Will Akrigg. The ever-dependable midfielder leaves us for his own travels until Christmas. Whilst I'll miss the waft of Friday night's beer in the air, I'll miss his calming influence and distribution from the centre of the pitch even more. Big shoes to fill!

Looking forward, we know what must be done. Ruthlessness and focus must be enveloped by every member of the squad going into the next game. We can not allow these past two games to become the start of a pattern.

Nonetheless, I know there are goals in this team and I know our character can not be matched - I fear for our next opponents.
